Bareboat Cruising Challenge

  • Description:

One day including certification exam. For those with extensive cruising experience but little formal training or certifications may qualify for the one day Bareboat Cruising certification challenge. This is a full day session from 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM. The majority of the class is completed on the water. Skills evaluation is on a Beneteau 39 or 43. The classroom component includes content review and testing.

Extensive cruising experience.

  • Certification: ASA Basic Keelboat, Basic Cruising and Bareboat Cruising Certifications

The ASA Certification fee, text books, logbook and one year membership to ASA are included in the course fee.

  • Duration: One day
  • Cost: $795 $636 per person for the one day course
  • Curriculum:

Curriculum includes parts of boat, terminology, personal floatation devices and safety gear, safety at sea including right of way and commands, knots, points of sail, tacks and jibes, basic sail shape and trim, sail raising and controls, dock leaving and return, and proper boat put down. The course also includes a review of terminology and sailing techniques relative to a mid-size auxiliary cruising sailboat followed by on the water training. Cruising topics covered include auxiliary cruising sailboat systems, maneuvering under power and sail, basic coastal navigation and coarse plotting, reefing, anchoring, crew overboard, safety at sea, radio operation, weather forecast interpretation, and heavy weather techniques.
